Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
Here are some common questions our patients ask about our office
-
What do I need to bring to my first appointment?
Please bring along your current insurance plan details and medical history to your first appointment.
-
In what kind of situation would I need X-rays?
X-rays, also known as radiographs, help our dentists detect issues that are not visible through a mirror examination of your mouth. They are valuable for viewing beneath the gum tissue and between teeth.
Using X-rays, we can observe the presence or absence of teeth (emerging teeth, missing permanent teeth, the position of wisdom teeth, and impacted teeth), cavities in their early stages, and the bone level (which often deteriorates after teeth have been lost or due to advanced gum disease).
Abscesses, cysts and calcified arteries (which can lead to a stroke) can also be seen with radiographs.
-
How early should I arrive for my appointment?
Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes ahead of your appointment. This should give you plenty of time to fill out our New Patient Form.

Are you taking on new patients?
Yes! We are happily welcoming new patients and their families to our dental clinic. Please contact us to book an appointment.
-
Do you accept dental insurance? And how does it work?
Yes. If you have a dental insurance plan, we will take care of all the paperwork so you are reimbursed for all benefits for which you are entitled.
We can electronically submit paperwork to your insurance company on your behalf. We also send all treatment plans for pre-authorization to find out what your specific plan will cover.
-
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Our recommendations for preventive treatment will differ based on your at-home care, the state of your mouth, the risk of cavities (caries), and your oral health habits.
We recommend that clients with existing conditions such as gum disease, untreated cavities, frequent new cavities, and root exposure should come in more often than those with healthy mouths and few restorations.
To help minimize further damage, patients who are considered 'at-risk' should see the dentist every three to four months.
For clients with healthy smiles, we recommend visiting the dentist every six months.
-
What if my insurance only covers cleaning every nine months?
Insurance policies vary in coverage. The '9-month rule' pertains to how often you can have a recall exam, polishing, and fluoride treatment. This does not mean that you won't be able to have your teeth cleaned.
Cleaning refers to 'scraping', or scaling/root planing. This is the removal of the deposits and stains from your teeth to help prevent your gum tissues from becoming irritated and bleeding.
Speak to our team if you are unsure about your insurance, we may be able to help clarify your coverage for you.
